How can non-profit organizations benefit from the SI DocFest?
In times of tight budgets, many organizations don’t have enough resources for publicity purposes. That’s why non-profit organizations profiled in SI DocFest films have much to gain by being a part of this event. The SI DocFest requires students to identify an organization that is positively contributing to a social issue in their community, providing the organizations with valuable exposure.
Because video can be so compelling, a documentary will also help in spreading awareness about the social issue. Beyond that, it may even motivate people to support these causes with their time and financial resources, ultimately helping these organizations reach their missions.
Non-profits can also benefit from having students tell the stories in their own words and from their youthful perspective. This creation process will also hopefully involve family and friends, reaching a broader audience.
Finally, organizations may receive monetary awards in the course of the SI DocFest. The prize structure is set up so that one third of the total $20,000 in prizes goes to the organizations and causes profiled in the films. And even if organizations don’t benefit monetarily from the film festival, many of the documentaries will be shown at the SI DocFest screening in February and clips will appear on the SI DocFest website, spreading constant awareness of the social issues and the causes dedicated to alleviating them.
